Grady is owned and loved by Chad Baker.  At four months of age, Grady was running over 200 yards to a back pile and retrieving plenty of marks.  At six months he went off to Jim Van Engen’s camp where he learned his basics and started his derby training.  In the fall of 2005 Chad brought him home to run a few derbies.  He racked up 26 points in 12 trials!  That fall he also jammed his first Qualifier at 17 months and won a 48 dog Qualifier the next weekend.  Grady returned to Jim’s for winter training.

Grady’s impressive record earned him a spot on the Handjem truck with Mike Lardy and crew.  At 4 years old Grady earned his FC and AFC.  He was the 2008 High Point Open Dog!  He qualified for the 2008 and 2009 National Amateur and National Open.  Grady won an 85 dog Open in 2010.  He only needs 2 points to qualify for the 2010 National Open.

In 2009 and again in 2010, Grady has battled infections caused from grass awns entering his skin and working their way deep into his muscle tissue.  He has had two separate surgeries to remove the awns.  Each of these instances has kept him from competing and racking up points for the Nationals.  He should be better soon and ready for competition!

When Grady is not training, he is a pleasure to have inside the house and accompanies Chad whenever possible.  He is also very good with their young children.

Even at Grady’s young age, he already has puppies on the National Derby List, Qualified All Age, and placing in All Age Stakes!

Zucker is an unbelievable hunter.  She lives for it!  She is a pinpoint marker, handles beautifully on blinds, and does it all with great style.  She runs as hard for blinds as she does for marks.  She loves training and learning new concepts.  She is one of the fastest and strongest dogs you will ever see run a test.  She has always placed in the top 3 in any of the timed retrieving events she has entered.  

Zucker did not start her official training and hunt test until she was over a year old because we were living in Switzerland.  After moving back to Texas and a month of hard training we started entering and passing both AKC and UKC hunt tests.  The first duck she ever saw was at her first test, which she passed!  She was a natural!

Zucker passed 5 consecutive Master tests to qualify for the 2009 Master National in Texas.  She did a great job while in Texas and handled the pressure, rain, and mud quite well.  Zucker passed her first attempt at the Master National to become a qualifier! 

After a very long, snowy winter we were finally able to start conditioning and training for field trials.  Zucker had only trained in water 3 times before the Talbot Field Trial but never cheated a mark and took every cast to the blind!  She placed 2nd to become Qualified All Age!

Zucker does not just compete.  She hunts all season long in all types of weather.  As fired up and hard charging as she is during competition, she stays still and quiet for hours in a boat or finishing blind while picking up ducks and geese for multiple guns.  She also works at a local hunting preserve for gunners from all over the country.

We are looking forward to competing in All Age stakes, pursuing her GRHRCH title, qualifying for the 2011 Master National, and maybe even an SRS event or two.

Zucker's biggest handicap is being trained and handled by a complete amateur, me.  This is my first competition dog and I am learning so much.  The second is the lack of training equipment and facilities.   She has saved us in tests more times than I care to mention.  We are also very limited in the number of tests she has competed in because of the kids' schedule.  I only mention the above disadvantages because I truly believe that she has the potential to compete against the best of dogs in any competition and it is ALL natural.

Grady has an amazing pedigree with more NFC and NAFC titles than I have ever seen in any pedigree!  He has 20 titled ancestors (5 generation pedigree) on his sire's side and 22 titled ancestors on his dam's side including QAAs.   He has 11 ancestors in his 5 generation pedigree who have been inducted into the Retriever Field Trial Hall of Fame.  Listed are just a few of the greats in Grady's  pedigree:
